Whitley (Halo Whitley)

"Halo Whitley” in her racing days is just “Whitley” these days. She is a 6 year old roan Thoroughbred mare.  In August 2006, friend and trainer, Becky Beyler, called me - she had come across a very cute little racehorse that was looking for a home. She had colicked badly and en route to recovery it was discovered that she had the worse stress fractures in her front legs that her vet had ever seen. Her future as a racehorse was not bright, and so she was, in those infamous words, ‘Free to a good home’.

Well, after one visit, her ‘good home’ was secured. After months of stall rest, learning how to eat treats, and turning quite the princess we started a very long rehab program to train her as a little dressage horse. She turned out to be a darling to work with and started going out to schooling shows and trail riding like a champ.

As ‘Whitley’ became more comfortable in her new home and her new career she became more and more opinionated about the world around her, and eventually decided that just flat work alone would not do.  After reassurance from my vet that her stress fractures were fully healed she started jumping in the summer of 2007. Though we still need some work, she showed exuberance for the new challenge - which sparked an idea for an even greater challenge for both of us – let’stry eventing! We made it through our first schooling Horse Trial summer of 2007, and are looking forward to getting back out there this season.

‘Whitley’ and I are both VERY excited to start our season at our new home with the rest of the family at “Hidden Creek Farm!"
