Lets talk
about growing up Italian and Christmas Eve! For us it is a night of
food, family and great memories. From my grandparents' table, to my
parents' table, to my brother's table, generations of my family have
handed down the wonderful tradition of the 'seven fishes of
Christmas Eve'. In our family it meant lets make as many favorite
fish dishes as can possibly fit on the table, and then invite all
our family, and anyone who may be alone that night! This feast
always included a table longer than the Last Supper and the door
bell ringing past Midnight. When my parents died, my brother Steve
carried on the tradition for our family. We all chip in for the
food, but Steve is the big cheese, head banana and main reason our
holiday is so special.
Family togetherness is important! We follow the popular Italian
saying "Natale con I tuoi; Pasqua conchi vuoi," which means
"Christmas with your family; Easter with whomever you wish." |
